The 2010s anime reboot, Sailor Moon Crystal, has made a surprise return to Netflix. The series brought the magical girl franchise back into the spotlight for a new generation of viewers back when it was first released, only to be removed from the platform in July 2025. However, it’s now quietly back on Netflix for viewers in the U.S. and Canada as of October 20, 2025.

The anime first aired in 1992, followed by the 20th Anniversary Project in 2012, and its reboot (which was a part of that same project) which premiered in 2014. The series is produced by Toei Animation and is based on Naoko Takeuchi’s original manga. Unlike the ’90s version of the anime, Sailor Moon Crystal follows Takeuchi’s manga storyline even more closely, as it covers the Dark Kingdom, Black Moon, and Death Busters’ arc across three seasons and 39 episodes in detail. The plot follows the story of a teenage hero, Usagi Tsukino, who turns into the guardian, Sailor Moon.

The anime’s continuation came in the form of two film duologies, Sailor Moon Eternal and Sailor Moon Cosmos, both of which conclude the story of the franchise. The final film, Sailor Moon Cosmos, debuted in Japan in June 2023 and was subsequently launched worldwide on Netflix on August 22, 2024. The movie adapts the Stars arc of the manga and serves as the fifth and final season of the Crystal continuity. Over at Rotten Tomatoes, Sailor Moon Eternal still boasts a perfect critics’ score of 100% and an audience score of 91%.

Sailor Moon’s New Café Collaboration Brings Naoko Takeuchi’s Color Artwork to Life in Tokyo

Sailor Moon creator Naoko Takeuchi is giving fans another chance to experience her timeless artwork in color. A new café collaboration in Tokyo will showcase the freshly colored manga illustrations from the All-Color Sailor Moon digital edition. It will include pages personally completed by Takeuchi herself.

The café will run from November 1 to December 30 at Marble Gallery Café in the Akasaka area. Entries will be selected through a lottery system, with early access available to Pretty Guardian Fan Club members before general reservations open. Visitors will be able to enjoy rotating displays of manga panels, such as Usagi Tsukino’s first transformation into Sailor Moon, which is beautifully shown with her early-design mask that later disappeared from the story. In addition to the exhibit, visitors will also be able to purchase limited-edition collectibles that are inspired by Takeuchi’s original art, including holographic acrylic files, postcards, and placemats that feature beloved moments from the anime.

Sailor Moon Crystal is available to stream on Netflix and Tubi. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
